September 2015 Client of the Month: Barby S.
What prompted you to begin Pilates?
Several Things: I had never really strengthened my core after having 3 csections. I also have scoliosis and was starting to have some lower back pain. Pilates was highly recommended by my doctor.
How many years have you been practicing Pilates?
10 years
What are some of the most influential or important reasons you continue with your Pilates practice?
My desire to continue having good posture as I get older and my desire to keep my body flexible. Also, remembering to put on the “tight girdle” when walking and sitting helps to improve and support my lower back compression and alleviate the pain.
How has Pilates effected your life?
I had a total knee replacement last year. The physical therapists told me that I had a faster and more successful recovery because I had been taking Pilates and that my body was in much better shape.
What is your favorite Pilates exercise? and why?
- The Half Plank/modified Front Support – because it makes my back feel good through the core strength and support it requires
- The Elephant – because it stretches my back out and elongates my spine
